Composer • 20+ Year Partnership

Murphy and composer Frank Wildhorn have worked together since the 1990s on Broadway productions, international premieres, and recordings.

Their shared credits include The Civil War, Wonderland, The Count of Monte Cristo, Death Note: The Musical, and later productions in Tokyo and Seoul.

It is the longest-running collaboration represented on this site and runs through much of Murphy's theatre work — with Rudolf returning to Budapest in 2025 and a new Count of Monte Cristo production scheduled for Münster in 2026.

Lynne Taylor Corbett, Jack Murphy's sister-in-law, introduced him to composer Frank Wildhorn, an introduction that led to one of Murphy's central artistic partnerships.

Corbett also worked directly on Queen Mother, where she contributed additional material and directed and choreographed the 2014 industry workshops developed with Goodspeed Musicals.

Ivan Menchell worked with Murphy on several international productions.

On Death Note: The Musical, Menchell's book and Murphy's lyrics adapted the manga for the stage in collaboration with Frank Wildhorn. For Mata Hari, Menchell's book was directed by Jeff Calhoun in the Seoul premiere.

Mary Bracken Phillips

Actress & Writer

Murphy's first significant theatre work came through his collaboration with actress and writer Mary Bracken Phillips on Silver Dollar.

On that project, Murphy composed the music while Phillips wrote the lyrics, before Murphy later moved more fully into lyric writing.

Gregory Boyd

Director & Co-Bookwriter
